Studio MAPPA‘s Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc is the upcoming theatrical continuation of the anime, adapting the Bomb Girl Arc from the manga. It follows directly after Season 1, exploring Denji’s life as part of Public Safety Special Division 4 and introducing the mysterious new character, Reze.

Plot
The film begins after the events of Season 1, with Denji navigating life as part of Division 4. Following a date with Makima, he has a chance encounter with Reze, a kind girl who works at a café. Their budding relationship takes a darker turn when Reze’s true identity and intentions come to light, pulling Denji into a conflict that tests both his emotions and his survival.

The film is set for a staggered worldwide release:

In Japan, the movie will be distributed by Toho and will also screen in IMAX. Internationally, it will be distributed by Sony Pictures via Crunchyroll. A world premiere event will take place in Japan on September 15, 2025, featuring the voice cast.
Music
The theme song for the movie is “IRIS OUT” by Kenshi Yonezu. An additional ending theme, “JANE DOE,” will be performed by Utada Hikaru in collaboration with Yonezu.
Visuals and Promotions


Promotional materials, including new trailers and key visuals, have highlighted both Denji’s emotional struggle between Makima and Reze, as well as the intense action sequences against the Bomb Devil. Twelve new character visuals have been revealed, showcasing both returning favorites and new characters. Advance tickets in Japan will go on sale starting July 18, including exclusive bonus merchandise.
Why a Movie Instead of Season 2?
MAPPA explained that the Reze Arc was chosen for a film adaptation because of its cinematic action and emotional weight. The studio believes that presenting this part of the story in theaters will give fans a larger-than-life experience, before eventually continuing the television series.
